Castillo Wine
This was a group project where we created a wine brand. Within this project the main part of my job was to create the logo, as well as the labels that would go on the wine bottles.
The logo was inspired by the lookout towers found at the Castillo de San Marcos in downtown Saint Augustine. The Castillo was the inspiration for the company’s name, so it was only right to include it in the logo. A wine glass was the placed in the window of the tower in order to represent what the company sold.
The goal of this project was to create a brand company as a group. The group decided to create a wine brand, starting with creating a name and basic brand identity. The first big puzzle piece to be laid was the name, “Castillo.” This was chosen based on the history within Saint Augustine, relating to the fort, Castillo De San Marcos National Museum, which is also one of the hot spots for tourism. The next step was to build a brand identity based off of those aspects. The brand was meant to be strong, standing the test of time, just like the Castillo itself. Along with this, a logo was needed. The chosen logo is simple, yet it incorporates both the fort and a wine glass. This makes the logo tie in nicely to the rest of the brand. The font chosen for the logo is bold, yet also flowing and smooth, much like the wine itself.
Once that was finalized, the next step was to move on to the visual identity, and begin designing different aspects of the brand. Which included the logo, packaging, a home page with two product pages, labels for the wines, mock ups of the bottles, and three piece product series. When designing these assets, a color scheme needed to be incorporated, as well as typeface. The chosen colors help emphasize the given power of Castillo’s wine, while also emphasizing its traditional origins. To add, the type helps to enforce the color, and reveal its simplistic, high quality, historical style. In conclusion, with the combination of both the verbal and visual identity branding created, Castillo has been forged to represent its power and robust wine, and you are resilient.
